Stay Safe on the Roads this Winter
This holiday season, we would like to remind everyone that the Clark County School District will officially begin its Winter Break on Saturday, December 22 and resume regular session on Monday, January 7. While it may seem like we tell the same old story every year, we cannot stress enough how important it is to remain cautious and alert on the roads during the first few weeks of winter. In addition to regular holiday-related traffic, many families may take the opportunity to spend the day outdoors, creating heavier pedestrian traffic in and around school zones. Even though school is out session, there may still be parents and children who are attempting to cross the street near their school. As a driver, do not be surprised if traffic comes to a sudden stop as you approach these areas, and if you are planning on taking a walk with your child through your community this winter, remember to only cross in designated crosswalks and always check in both directions for oncoming traffic–even while you are in the crosswalk.
Pedestrian collisions continue to make up a significant part of accidents involving an automobile in the Las Vegas area, and Nevada leads the U.S. annually in total pedestrian fatalities. Last year, a record-high 78 pedestrians were killed in Clark County alone, with most deaths occurring in the second half of the year. As we enter the holiday season, we must remember that reducing the frequency and severity of these incidents requires every member of the community to adopt safer, proper driving practices not only on Christmas and New Year’s Eve, but every day of the year. We wish all our clients and their families a relaxing and safe end to 2018, and we are thankful for the efforts of thousands of tireless individuals who are helping to make Las Vegas an even better place to live. Happy Holidays to all of you!
